We are happy to announce that the 48th Colloquium on Perception has been decided to be held in Hita, Japan, on 6-8 March 2015. The Colloquium, which will be held at the Kamponoyado Hita, is cosponsored by the Organizing Committee of the 48th Colloquium on Perception, Research Center for Applied Perceptual Science (ReCAPS), Kyushu University, Research and Development Center for Taste and Odor Sensing (TAOS), Kyushu University, and the Kyushu Chapter of the Acoustical Society of Japan. In addition to the conventional contributed lectures, posters, and demonstrations, International Five-Sense Symposium is jointly organized in the Colloquium in the afternoon of the second day (Saturday, 7 March), in which two keynote lectures, i.e., "What abnormal perception tells us about normal perception," by Prof. Stuart ANSTIS, University of California, San Diego and "Biochemical sensors for senses of taste and smell," by Prof. Kiyoshi TOKO, Kyushu University, and contributed papers will be included.

Hita, Oita is situated in Kyushu, which is the southernmost part among the four large islands in Japan. It had been one of the shogunal demesnes, with its famous hot springs, good water, and geographic importance in traffic. At the end of the Edo period, Kangien, the largest private school in Japan at that time, was established in Hita by Tanso HIROSE, who educated Masujiro OMURA and Choei TAKANO, historical great figures who contributed a lot to open the way to the Meiji era, keeping the Japanese independence. A well-preserved sake cellar which was built in the Edo period and is still used, and a beer brewery, Sapporo Beer, can be also observed in Hita.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Hita, the place fostered enterprising persons, being blessed with natural beauty, and attracting many tourists.
